  • Student Loan

I applied for a salie Mae student Loan a month ago. It took them more than a month to process my application and this was with me calling everyday almost harassing them asking about the status of my application only to find out that it was denied a month later ! Right before my class start date ! So pissed at the fact that they made me go through all the trouble of getting a co-signer to say I was getting denied ! Very inconsistent but at the end I was glad I did get approved I wouldn't have wanted to get ripped off by such a shitty bank ! I highly suggest not even getting involved... More...

  • Mystery Interest

I paid a lot of money to get my payments well above the interest accrued monthly on my loan. That way every month most of it will go to accrued interest and then the rest to the principal. I even paid even more than that to get ahead of the excess interest that had already accumulated. (Because no one wants to tell you your minimum payment is less than the amount you're accruing in pure interest so that extra interest just adds up and stacks) So I got rid of it. Tell me how a couple of months down the line after continuously making extra payments that I'm accruing some kind of... More...

  • Customer Service Sucks!!!!

I am a co-signer for my graddaughters loan. I recieved numerous calls about repayment-I set up an auto payment plan in October. I started receiving calls again 2 days ago stating that my nov payment has not been paid. I call the 800-4-sallie # put in my info & get transferred to Navient?? I explain to the csvc rep that I called Sallie about my co-signed loan--he then transfers me to the collection department--after sitting on hold for 55 min I was told that my payment did not go thru & to check my statement & get back to them.. After hanging up with them I attempted to sign... More...

  • 3 Hard Inquiries - Lowering My Credit Scores

I recently applied for a student loan along with my son as a cosigner. Even though, I applied for a loan only once but my credit report shows there were three hard inquiries and occurred on the following dates. 1. Sallie Mae July 27, 2014 2. Sallie Mae July 30, 2014 3. Sallie Mae August 8, 2014 I am not sure WHY was it pulled 3 times when I co-signed only one time and WHY were they pulled without my authorization. The extra pulling of my credit resulted in my FICO scores to drop by as much as 20 plus points. More...

  • Spoke to Sallie Mae Yesterday

For the past two weeks sallie mae has been attempting to get a hold of me and yesterday I decided to find out why they kept calling me. They wanted to inform me that one of my student loans is in repayment and past due. Keep in mind in January of 2014 I had set up a deferment against my better judgement to get them to leave me alone for a while. I am also still in school so there should not be anything in repayment status. Come to find out they had taken a loan that I had consolidated with William D Ford from 2004 and made it active again. It says the loan was consolidated in 2009, well... More...

I have not been able to make a payment on time this month due to all Sallie Mae services down due to technical problems. Their phone lines and internet have been down for an entire week! Cannot submit payment online, over the phone, etc. How are people suppose to make their payments? Will there be late fees/penalties? How can a financial institution be so irresponsible? This is unbelievable!!!!!! Someone help... More...

  • Loan disbursement dates never right

For my last 2 semesters I took out a loan from Sallie Mae. Both times they added the funds to the wrong semester so I had to call my school to tell them to cal Sallie Mae to get it fixed. It was a huge hassle and added unneeded stress. At first they tried to tell me that I would have to cancel the loan and reapply (affecting my credit even more) The representatives there have no idea what they are taking about and can barely speak English. I will NEVER use Sallie Mae again. More...

  • Don't use Sallie Mae!!

I have had nothing but trouble with Sallie Mae for the past five months! It is too late for me not to choose to trust Sallie Mae but if this review keeps anyone else from trusting them then my terrible experience will be worth it. First of all, taking out a loan from them is very confusing and time-consuming. Second of all, their interest rates are ridiculously high. Third, they bombard you with mail saying they are ready to "help" you again when what they really want is to take all of your money. They DO NOT care about the customer AT ALL! My personal problems with Sallie Mae are... More...

  • Sallie Mae is the worst company EVER!!

I have been dealing with the same issue since I opened my loan back in Feb. It is now May 30 and my issue still has not been resolved. Every single time I call none of the representatives can answer my questions and precede to transfer me to someone else. One time I managed to talk to over 10 people in one phone call!!!! I am also told every time that my issue will be resolved and that it is not a problem however it has been 4 months and still no progress! The absolute WORST loan company EVER!. On so many levels do I wish I NEVER did business with them. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! Stay away from... More...

  • Sallie Mae Student Loans Repayment

My son did not graduate but took out loans totaling almost 80,000. When he first entered college, I was told that in order for him to have lower interest rates, that I should co-sign and I did. Little did I know at the time that I will never be able to be dropped as a co-signer because he did not get a degree. He can not consolidate because he did not get a degree. He has loans totaling $594 a month. We split this three ways (him, my husband, and me). I have called repeatedly trying to get this lowered. However, in another year or so this is going to go up to $764 a month. Sallie... More...

  • Sallie Mae Needs to Be Stopped

I graduated from a four year college in 2009 being about $75,000 in debt. In December of 2009 I got something in the mail from Sallie saying that I had to start paying off my debt and that my interest had not been paid in over a year. (My father had originally agreed to pay for my interest but he fell into deep financial debt around that time and never paid it. It would have been nice if he told me.) I called them and agreed with the customer service rep that I could pay $209 a month. They originally wanted me to pay a little over $500 a month which I could not afford in any way, shape, or... • Sallie Mae terrible customer service

On March 13 "Debbie" provided terrible customer service and hung up on me (after a 45 minute phone call) before I could provide a review at the end of my call. While on the phone, she assured me that she had emailed me a document I needed which I never received. She gave me grossly inaccurate information regarding my loan deferment. The following day, I had to spend another 45 minutes on the phone with a supervisor (who took 20 minutes to get to the phone) attempting to find a solution to the problems "Debbie" caused. Though "Ken" was more knowledgeable, as... More...

  • Bad Communication

Sallie Mae is the bane of my existence! It was fine during my grace period. Then I call a few months before my regular payments are due to find out what my regular payments are going to be. They told me around $447. This was far more than I could afford. I recently graduated, and getting a decent job right out of college is difficult. All they told me was that I could apply for forbearance and delay it for three months. Okay. So I called The day before my first official payment was due, as instructed. I asked to apply for forbearance, and they told me I was still in grace period until... More...

Sallie Mae consistently fucks students over, I have not heard ONE good thing about them. Sadly because my parents were poor but somehow my promise financial aid never happened I had to borrow a lot. Now they take most of my money and I will be paying them off til I die. I cannot tell you how many times I have cried over this crap. Sallie Mae should be charging 0.75% interest (the discount rate that the feds get) instead of 10% . They are feeding off of students that had trouble paying for school in the first place. We bailed out the auto industry; we bailed out the banks; we fought in wars; we are taxed out of every orifice in our bodies. The student loan bubble will burst and tax payers will be responsible---not Sallie Mae. • Sallie Mae rips off the unemployed

Sallie Mae, Wilkes Barre PA. I am unemployed, out of unemployment compensation, homeless and hungry. Sallie Mae calls 6-7s a day demanding a $400.00 payment. I called them to try and get qualified for some type of deferment and was told by customer service that I could do a zero income deferment for 25 years and then they would forgive the loan. I asked how this would affect my credit and was told it will not. I also told him I found it hard to believe that Sallie Mae was just forgiving loans and was told they no longer try to collect on people with no income. Then he transferred me to... More...

  • Sallie Mae is KILLING my generation's future!

I made the biggest mistake of my life when, acting upon the belief that had been ingrained in me since early childhood that education was the key to a prosperous future, I pursued an undergraduate and graduate degree, both which required loans. I do not recall signing any paperwork with Sallie Mae, yet they somehow acquired several of my loans. I just graduated in August, and even before then they were saying I was late on my payments, that I needed to pay more than my monthly income per month, and that I could not defer my loans because I had done so once before (I found out that was a... Sallie Mae has been a thorn in my side since I first received money from them for college. What a mistake. I have come to terms that they are difficult to work with and am just dealing with it until I can get them paid off. However, every time I call in I am unsuccessful in reaching a conclusion with the issue at hand. Most recently, I had to be transferred three times because I could not understand the representative that was helping me. • Sallie Mae continuing to demand money for loans paid in full

In May 2010 I refinanced my house to pay off all of my student loans. In July 2010 began receiving collection calls from Sallie Mae. I sent in copies of my cancelled checks repeatedly via fax and mail. No one I spoke to at Sallie Mae was authorized to fix the problem, they could only nag for more money. In the September of 2012 I finally reached Christopher Chamberlain, who explained that one faction of Sallie Mae had sold off my loans to another faction of Sallie Mae during the time I sent the checks, so that the checks had never been applied to my accounts properly. He said he would fix... More...

  • Sallie Mae Calls

This past week, we received a phone call about a loan for a family member that does not live with us. During this time we started to receive 6-7 robo calls per day which upon answering automatically goes to a hold service. I contacted Sallie Mae on 11/5/13 and was assured that my phone number would be removed in 48 hours, but as of today 11/8/13, I have received an additional 6 calls. • Conceals Information

Yesterday, while going through some paperwork, I found a document from Citibank with the balance I owed before they sold my loan to Sallie Mae in 2011. After nearly two years of approx. $500 monthly payments, the balance has gone UP. When I tried to find information on the effect of each payment on the balance, all I got was a transaction history with each payment's application to principle and interst. There is no previous balance amount, or even the original loan amount when Sallie Mae took it over from Citibank. After a thirty- minute snow job -- no answer to my question -- a... More...

  • Sallie Mae is a predatory lender that just wants to steal your money

I have a small private student loan (not sure how I got it since I just accepted whatever my university gave me) that does not allow for any deferments or forebearances (unless I want to $50 every 3 months). I have a new baby at home and my husband goes to school full-time and works part time. The only way we eat every month is with food stamps. We barely have enough money to pay rent, and have been reducing our other monthly expenses all that we can. If I could pay off the loan I would in a heart beat. Why is it that Sallie Mae is allowed to continue to doing business with so many complaints. I agree, the customer service reps are unqualified and unprofessional. Who monitors these companies? Seems like they prey on young people who want to educate themselves to be responsible American citizens. Not just students, but parents as well. Is there anyone to complain to?
